3 things to do this Bank Holiday Weekend
It’s finally here – the August Bank Holiday.
Okay, so Covid and stormy weather may have slightly dented our enthusiasm for the best weekend of the year. Still, there’s plenty of fun things you can do here in Llangollen, home of the Three
Eagles bar and grill.
1. Nestled in verdant vales and surrounded by the River Dee, Llangollen is the perfect place for a daycation. You can take a stroll along the Victoria Promenade to the Riverside Park, watch the river tumble down beneath the bridge or hike up to an ancient castle. For a real taste of the region though, pop into the Three Eagles for a delicious black sheep burger. No need to worry about muddy boots, dogs or kids – just relax and enjoy the chilled out vibe over a craft beer or cocktail.
2. Take a step back in time with a steam train journey. The standard gauge heritage railway located beside the historic Dee Bridge in Llangollen, journeys through the picturesque Dee Valley to Carrog.
3. Visit a medieval abbey. Valle Crucis was celebrated by poets for its grandeur and lavish hospitality. Even today, it’s hard not to be impressed by its towering west front. Elsewhere among the romantic ruins painted by Turner are the rib-vaulted chapter house and the only surviving monastic fishpond in Wales. See CADW‘s website for further details.
